Jane Dilworth & Associates considers the design and construction process a journey of mutual collaboration - one that enables both the client and our team to reach a common vision. From the initial meeting and site consultation, our clients look forward to an interactive relationship throughout every phase of their project. From the discussion and review of their plan drawings to the finishing construction details of their project, the result is a space that represents the client’s needs and dreams.

Although every client, and therefore the specifics of their design process, is unique, our general process is:

The consultation: At this time you will meet with Jane or one of the designers for approximately an hour to discuss your property, be presented with ideas for improving it. At the end of the consultation, you will be presented with a Contract for Landscape Design for the areas you discussed.

The design phase: This begins after you return the Contract for Landscape Design along with the New Client Questionnaire back to our office. The designer's first step is to read through this and discuss the project with Jane. She then comes to your house to measure your property and do a comprehensive site inventory. Back at the office, concepts are created, which are then presented to you at the first design meeting. Once you have had a chance to review the concepts and indicate your preferences, a final design and Installation Proposal are created and presented to you.

The installation phase: Once you choose to accept the Installation Proposal, in part or in its entirety, you are added to our construction schedule. We discuss the need for permits and who will be responsible for securing them as well as coordinating any complementary landscape services, such as lighting and irrigation. The project coordinator and crews work with the designer to make sure the vision on the drawing is carried through into your yard.

Please keep in mind that we try to schedule our clients on a first-come, first-serve basis in each step of the process. Designs are completed in the order that the contracts are received, and installations are scheduled based on receipt of the signed proposal and deposit. Because we are a seasonal business that is heavily dependent on the weather, we do not have complete control over our schedule. If you have a deadline you would like to meet, whether it is a spring graduation or a fall party, please let us know as soon as possible. We will do everything we can to accomodate you.
